Correct me, O Lord, but in just measure; not in your anger, or you will bring me to nothing. Jeremiah 10:24
God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:9
God protected Jeremiah as he prophesied to the people of Judah during the reigns of Josiah and succeeding kings. The leaders at the time were angry with Jeremiah because he warned the wicked of their wrongs while continuing to comfort those who trusted in God. Jeremiah believed and preached that God was ultimate. The political and religious leaders of the time led the people to worship Baal and other idols. Jeremiah preached constantly through the words God gave to him that if the people returned to following God they would be readily welcomed back to God's fold and would not be harshly punished.
God loves us unconditionally and just wants us to be saved and to believe that Jesus died and rose again in expiation for our sins. This gift of eternal life, so freely given, is difficult for many to accept. There are times when any one of us can be led astray from keeping our eye on God's promises for us. We doubt and turn to our own devices rather than "just letting go and letting God." These are times when that small glimmer of hope can lead us back to the presence of God in our lives. What a blessed assurance it is when we feel our lives grounded in our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. May you find in each day a reason for thankfulness for all that God has done for you and all that he provides for you even when life is difficult.
Dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heaven, to earth come down!
Fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure unbounded love thou art;
visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.
May the words of this beloved hymn fill us with awe at the wonderful gift you have given each one of us who believe. In your holy name we pray, amen.
