“This is God, our God forever and ever.  He will be our guide forever.”  Psalm 48:14

“Jesus said, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life.’”  John 14:6

Several years ago, we traveled to Italy with my sister and her husband.  I had planned the trip – where we would stay and highlighted the route on a map.  As we exited Milan airport, I realized immediately I had no idea how to navigate the map I had prepared.  We lost our way every day, yet each night we slept where we had planned to sleep.  We often ask, “What did we do before GPS?”  Yet, at my age, I have traveled most of my life using road maps, and I’m still sleeping where I mean to sleep!

Our life journey often seems less the clarity of GPS than deciphering a road map.  We do not hear or see a specific route, surely not the shortest or the fastest.  God doesn’t talk to us through our phone or show us which way to turn on a screen.  There are unforeseen roadblocks and detours.  We will see “ROAD CLOSED – EXIT NOW” and find ourselves in strange surroundings.

But God is not disconnected from us.  God is guiding us, showing us the way, through Scripture and prayer; our elders and church teachers; through the words of encouragement, care and comfort of others.  At the end of the day “we will sleep where we mean to sleep.”

Jesus, be our guide as we journey.  Thank you for the voices of family and friends who have cared for us with loving guidance.  Help me be such a blessing to others.  Amen
