The Lord is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom. Isaiah 28:29
Christ came and proclaimed peace to those who were far off and peace to those who were near. Ephesians 2:17
Way back in the good old days, the 1960’s and 70’s I wore the peace symbol everywhere. To college, out with friends, to anti-war rallies, church, everywhere. The crowd I was in wanted so badly to end the Vietnam War, that we went to protests, sit-ins, and anywhere people were gathered. Spreading the theme of peace.
The need for peace has been around forever. Humans need peace. It is engrained in our DNA. Of course, some people need it more than others. It means to live together in harmony, without violence or strife. Without it we are stuck, as humans and as a community. It is needed for a community, a society to advance.
The notion of peace is complex. Peace is not merely the absence of hostility, violence or war, but it is a larger concept. There are various contributing factors such as healthy international relationships, security in matters of global or economic welfare and equality and fairness in political relationships.
There have been many people of peace, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, The Dali Lama, Bishop Tutu and many, many more. They talked about peace, they lived peace, they practiced peace.
Peace is essential to control the evils which damage our society. It is obvious that we will keep facing crises on many levels, we need to manage them better with the help of peace. It is vital for human kind to survive and strive for a better future. The verses today talk about God’s peace. God’s peace we hold in our heart. God’s wisdom and His counsel. It’s a personal thing, how you believe in God and where you place Him in your life. But remember…….
Let There Be Peace On Earth written by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller
“Let There Be Peace On Earth
And Let It Begin With Me.
Let There Be Peace On Earth
The Peace That Was Meant To Be.
With God As Our Father Brothers All Are We.
Let Me Walk With My Brother In Perfect Harmony.
Let Peace Begin With Me Let This Be The Moment Now.
With Every Step I Take Let This Be My Solemn Vow.
To Take Each Moment And Live Each Moment With Peace Eternally.
Let There Be Peace On Earth, And Let It Begin With Me."
Wonderful Counselor, you want me to live within your abiding peace. But I am uncertain and impatient and strike out on my own. It will only end badly for me. May I receive your forgiveness today so that peace may fill my heart. Amen.
Peace, Susan Hanson
