Thus says the Lord, your redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who by myself spread out the earth. Isaiah 44:24.
For us there is one God, the Father, for whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and for whom we exist. 1 Corinthians 8:6.
Good and bad, best and worst, highs and lows, yin and yang, positive and negative. It seems to me that many experiences in life contain a mixture of these words which describe a happening. A baby is born, good news; the baby has Downs Syndrome, bad news. A woman dies suddenly, worst news for many; the funeral brings together family, old and new friends who enjoy seeing each other and remember happy times with their friend, best news. A child brings home a good report card, a high in his day; he was bullied on the bus, a definite low in his day.
Life brings both positives and negatives to all of us. What makes a difference is how we handle the situation. God has given us marvelous ways to cope with both misfortune and good fortune. We learn along the way that He is in all things.
God formed us in our mother’s wombs, He knows us, He calls us by name. He also holds us in his hand. He is a great God. Thanks be to Him who made the earth and stretched out the heavens and gave his son to die for us, his beloveds.
Holy God, our lives are small compared to your power and majesty. Help us to remember that we exist for you. Forgive our wandering, our angst, our poor decisions. May our lives today be a testament to your love and mercy. Amen
