In God we boast all day long, and praise your name forever. Psalm 44:8 NKJV
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
Recently I read about a person who was going through a difficult time. She could not change what was happening, but she did find a way to thank God every day. She decided to write something for which she was thankful each day and put the note in a jar. Later she removed the notes one-by-one, and read them. It helped her to realize how many good things surrounded her in her life. Shewrote about what a beautiful day it was as she took a walk to lift her discouraged spirits on the day she put the first note in the jar.
Of course, there are times when we feel overwhelmed by to-do lists, our own illness or that of those close to us, needs of the ones who depend on us, difficult losses, etc. Maybe even the need for a time alone or a change of interests nags at us. It can seem difficult to rejoice always and pray without ceasing. Still, the Lord always loves us without ceasing. Nature is full of marvels and beauty. A surprise visit or call from a special person in one’s life can make one’s day. Maybe just having running water, heat, and other conveniences piques our feeling of thankfulness. You have the ability to think of your own reasons to praise our Lord. A joyful heart can help each one of us to view everything in life with more energy and optimism. Remember, God is always working in our lives.
Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Thank you for all that you do for each of us. You are always loving us and working for us. Lift us from dwelling on the tensions of this life and help us to always turn to you. Gift each of us with joyful hearts that boast in you alone. Amen.
