This poor soul cried and was heard by the Lord and was saved from every trouble. Psalm 34:6
Jesus said ,”Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Psalm 34 has an interesting “headline”: Praise for Deliverance from Trouble
Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.
The Psalm starts out with praise:
I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1
Then there are a couple verses as to why David is praising the Lord. In verse 4 he says he sought the Lord, and was heard, and relieved of all his fears. Then in our verse 6 for today, he refers to himself as a poor soul, yet a person who is heard by God, and is saved from all his troubles. He must have had worries and troubles if he was hiding and feigning madness. Yet he remembered that God loved and cared for him. His action was to cry out to God, to call out to the Lord for help and comfort.
Jesus also tell us that we can call on Him when we are weary, carrying heavy burdens, scared, tired, or depressed. He is always ready to listen to our fears and concerns. He will give us rest from our worries. Then, just like David, we can Praise the Lord!
Lord Jesus, thank you for listening to all our woes and fears. We can count on you to provide a path through pain and exhaustion. When we seek relief in other ways, guide us back to your way. Let us find rest in the presence of your love. Refresh us to love and serve others. Amen
